Perhaps the biggest event of this year so far has been a visit from Aunty Shelly and Granny. They came in the middle of September to see our new home in Oregon and spend some time Jack and Ellie, which they haven’t done since June 2016.
Well, we didn’t waste any time. Since Ellie had started school, Jack got to spend some special one-on-one time with Granny and Shelly. We did a fair amount of wine tasting, exploring Portland, activities like bowling and eating out.
We also did a hike up Beacon Rock, which Jack impressively managed all by himself.
Then there was a trip to the beach, where Jack was flying his Spidey kite and encouraging him to go higher and higher (see the video below).

These past two weeks, I’ve had family visiting from the UK. With a view to ensuring that they saw as much of the PNW as possible, we would go places that we might ordinarily give second thoughts to taking Jack to.
However, I am so glad that we did because one day, I wanted to take my family hiking in the Gorge, so we headed for Beacon Rock and I told Jack that we were going to climb it. Continue reading “Jack: my hiking buddy”
In August, Aunty Nicola and cousin Max were kind enough to visit us from England.
It really felt like a long trip, because we did so much every day that we really made the most of our time.
There was a jetboat ride on the Willamette, wine tasting, waterfalls, beaches, mountains, lakes, roses, playing around, snuggling, barbecues, stories and more. Continue reading “A visit from Aunty Nicola and Max”
This summer, we spent a couple of weeks visiting with family in New England. We spent about a week each in Bath, NH and Kingston, MA.
While there, Jack got to meet his second cousins, Addison, Mason and Emmerson as well as other family members.
While there, he perfected walking and finally got the tooth through that had been bugging him for weeks. Continue reading “Jack’s first vacation – New England 2016”
It has been a whole year now since Jack was born.
366 whole days.
I’m really finding it hard to fathom that. It came so much quicker than it did with Ellie because life has been so much busier with two than it was with one.
Nonetheless, our little man really is becoming a little man now. He’s on the precipice of walking and all of a sudden, he’s changed from a little bundle of body parts to a little boy with human stature. It’s bizarre to witness.
This evening, to celebrate his birthday, we went to Love Food Central in St Pete – one of our favourite local vegan places – to enjoy dinner with some family. The owners were even kind enough to give Jack a piece of peanut butter pie with a candle in it and he boshed the lot of it! Continue reading “Jack’s 1st birthday [VIDEO]”
TK has spent many afternoons with her great nephew and we finally got around to getting some photos of the two of them together. Continue reading “Jack and TK”
Jack loved all the cuddles, snuggles and kisses that he got from Aunty Shelly, so he couldn’t let her leave without one final snuggle. Continue reading “A goodbye cuddle for Aunty Shelly”
During Michelle’s stay with us, Jack definitely got his fair share of snuggles from her! Continue reading “So many Shelly snuggles”
For as unhappy as Jack generally seemed to be during the first few weeks, he’s definitely making up for it now. Aunty Shelly sent me this essage while I was at work of how much fun he was having with her aunty. Continue reading “The happiness continues”
Jack’s first cousin once removed, Uncle Tyler, was a little nervous about holding Jack. But once he got him in his arms, he took to child-rearing like a pro with a baby in one arm and a beer in the other. Continue reading “Uncle Tyler is a pro”
